Ohio Bluegrass Winter Weekend is proud to provide our 3rd annual Bluegrass Band Contest for talented bluegrass bands looking to compete for a chance to win.

What can I win?

• 1st Place: A full album recorded, engineered, mixed and mastered by Clay Hess at 7flat Studio. 

• 2nd Place: $1,500 studio recording credit on a full album recording by Clay Hess at 7flat Studio. 

• 3rd Place: $1,000 studio recording credit on a full album recording by Clay Hess at 7flat Studio. 

When is it? 

The Band Contest will start at 12pm on Saturday, March 9th.

How much does it cost to enter?

The entry fee is $150 and can be paid at the bottom of this page. The contest will be limited to 20 bands so sign up as soon as possible.

How many songs will each band be asked to perform?

Each band should have 5 songs ready.

• Round 1: Each band will play 2 songs.

• Round 2: The top 3 bands, based on the judges scores, will play 2 additional songs. 

• Round 3 (Tie): If there is a tie after Round 2, the bands with the tied scores will perform one additional song. 

Total scores from cumulative rounds will be used to determine the winner. If there is a tie in Round 3, the band ( in the playoff) with the higher score in round 1 is the winner. 

How will the bands be judged and scored?

Bands are judged solely on music, not appearance. Bands will be scored using the categories listed below. Each category consists of 100 possible points for a total of 400 points per round.

• Rhythm Section

• Instrumental Proficiency
